In doing so, Donnarumma put himself in the firing line. Songo ended up prodding the ball into the chest of PSG’s first-choice shot-stopper, before raising his boot and catching the Italian in the face with his studs. On-field medical attention was required before Donnarumma could make his way to the dressing room.

WHAT PSG SAID

The former AC Milan keeper was fitted with staples after suffering several nasty cuts and will be sporting a black eye for some time. PSG expect to be without the Euro 2020 winner for their final fixture of the calendar year, with an update on their reading: “Victim of facial trauma with multiple wounds, Gianluigi Donnarumma will return to Paris with the team. He will undergo medical examinations and will have to remain inactive for several days.”

WHAT NEXT?

PSG will be in French Cup action against Lens on Sunday, with Donnarumma likely to sit out that contest. A winter break will then be taken in before facing Monaco again on January 5, 2025 in the Trophee des Champions final.
