In an exclusive interview with GOAL, Jones was asked to build his dream United team, and made a couple of surprising choices with only seven slots available. The former Red Devils defender opted for De Gea in goal ahead of legends like Edwin van der Sar and Peter Schmeichel, and went for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in defence. Michael Carrick got the nod in midfield alongside Paul Scholes before Jones decided who should lead the line.

Jones appeared to hesitate for a moment after choosing Rooney for one of the striker roles. The former England international could have partnered Rooney with his old team-mate Ronaldo, but instead gave his backing to the prolific Dutch frontman Robin van Persie, who fired United to their last Premier League title back in 2012-13.

Ronaldo and De Gea are the only members of Jones' dream team who are still playing professional football. Ronaldo is currently on the books of Saudi outfit Al-Nassr, who he joined on a free transfer after ending his second spell at United in 2022, and De Gea is minding the net for Fiorentina in Serie A.
