Diaz and Kane lined up together for the first time after being frequent opponents in the past during both players' tenures in the Premier League. Bayern have strengthened over the summer, including the €75 million (£65.5m/$88m) signing of Diaz from Liverpool, and will be aiming to challenge on all fronts this season. Both players will hope to go far in the Champions League, a trophy neither have won in the past.

WHAT DIAZ SAID

Diaz said: "I’m so happy tonight. To score was really special. My first official title and my first goal for Bayern – what can I say? It was a spectacular night for me. I want to win as many titles as I can here. I tried to find a great club that competes in big competitions and I’m happy to be here. It’s special to play with Harry Kane, he’s a phenomenon. It’s really easy to play alongside him as he has so much quality; it’s a privilege."

Kane returned the compliments, saying of Diaz: "I think you can see what he brings one-v-one. He's really sharp, really agile. The goal was a great run, a great finish. Scoring in your first competitive game for a new club is great and for it to be the winning goal is a perfect start for him."
